Opensignal: Smart is the Operator to Beat in PH

According to the latest Mobile Network Experience Report for the Philippines by Opensignal, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is the operator to beat after winning 11 out of 16 awards. The report from the independent global standard for analyzing consumer mobile experience covers the period from January 1 to March 31, 2022.

Smart won four awards in Overall Experience, four awards in 5G Experience, and three awards in Coverage.

Overall Experience

The company topped Video Experience, Games Experience, Voice App Experience, and Download Speed Experience as far as Overall Experience goes.

Video Experience scores were pretty close with DITO scoring 30.8 points and Globe scoring 35.5 points. However, Smart came out on top with 39.5 points, meaning Filipino users had the best experience when streaming video over mobile connections on the Smart network.

Meanwhile, Smart outright won the Games Experience award topping with 54 points. This is 12.9 points over second-placed DITO, which scored 41.1 points. Globe was slightly further behind with 37.7 points.

As far as Voice App Experience, Smart won with a score of 73.7 points. It was comfortably ahead of DITO’s 69.9 points and Globe’s score of 67.5 points.

Smart also took the Download Speed Experience award with a 19.7Mbps average download speed. It was a commanding win ahead of DITO’s 14.8 Mbps and Globe’s 11.9Mbps.

5G Experience

Smart topped in 5G Games Experience, 5G Voice App Experience, 5G Download Speed, and 5G Upload Speed in the 5G Experience category.

When it came to playing multiplayer games on mobile over a 5G connection, it took the cake scoring 68.1 points out of 100, beating Globe by an impressive 11.3 points.

In 5G Voice App Experience, Smart’s 78.4 points inched out a win over Globe’s 76.6 points.

Smart also impressed in 5G Download and Upload Speeds with speeds of 149.9Mbps and 14.6Mbps, respectively. In comparison, Globe clocked in 111Mbps and 11 Mbps, respectively.

Coverage

Lastly, the three awards in the Coverage category that Smart topped are namely 5G Availability, 5G Reach, and 4G Coverage Experience.

Smart 5G users spent the largest proportion of their time with an active 5G connection with 14.7% of the time compared to Globe’s 8.8%.

Likewise, in 5G Reach, Smart scored 4.4 points on a 10-point scale with Globe clocking in at 3.5 points.

Smart users were able to find a 4G signal in most locations. As a result of this, it was the winner of the 4G Coverage Experience with 7.8 points out of 10. Globe came in second with a score of 7.5, while DITO trailed at 4 points.

“Smart is once again the operator to beat in the Philippines,” said Opensignal Senior Analyst Sam Fenwick in the latest Opensignal Mobile Network Experience Report for the Philippines.
