OPPO has been planning to reduce its reliance on other companies for its semiconductors. A report coming from China seems to support this as it mentions that OPPO is set to produce its own AP (Application Processor) chip. The new chip is said to be based on TSMC’s 6nm process by next year. In addition, OPPO is tipped to introduce its own SoC by 2024.

The rumored SoC is said to be based on TSMC’s 4nm process and will integrate the said AP chip and a Modem.

OPPO has already launched its own NPU – MariSilicon X. As of now the company’s own team has completed its front-end design, back-end design, IP design, memory architecture, ARM CPU design scheme, algorithm, and supply chain tape-out which includes design, digital verification, and back-end integration team.

However, the upcoming SoC from the company may not be on par with other manufacturers’ latest chips performance-wise but may be used to power OPPO’s more budget-friendly smartphones.
