Samsung introduced its new flagship SoC – Exynos 2200, which includes an AMD RDNA 2-based GPU – Xclipse. This chipset was set to be announced last January 11 but it got delayed.
This announcement from the company has somewhat confirmed that the Galaxy S22 lineup next month may be powered by the new Exynos SoC though there has been no official statement about this.
Here are the specs/features of the new flagship SoC:
- Built on the company’s 4 nanometer process
- Octa-core CPU design that uses Armv9 core comprised of three CPU clusters – a single Cortex-X2 flagship core, three Cortex-A710 big core, and four Cortex-A510 little cores
- An AMD RDNA 2-based Xclipse GPU to bring a “console-level” gaming experience
- Xclipse GPU that features hardware-accelerated raytracing and variable-rate shading, the former simulates realistic lighting and the latter lowers the shading rate in areas of the game that optimizes GPU workloads.
- An advanced multi-IP governor (AMIGO) that enhances overall performance and efficiency by reducing battery for high-resolution games.
- A new NPU that enhances image processing that supports 108MP single-camera mode and offers 4K HDR and 8K video recordings
- 3GPP Release 16 5G modem that supports sub-6GHz and mmWave spectrum bands for connectivity
- New E-UTRAN New radio – Dual Connectivity (EN-DC) that utilizes both 4G LTE and 5G NR signals that can boost speed up to 10Gbps
- Integrated Secure Element (iSE) that stores private cryptographic keys to play a role as RoT (Root to Trust)
- Reinforced inline hardware encryption for UFS storage and DRAM
Samsung said the Exynos 2200 has now entered mass production. It has not been explicitly confirmed, but the chipset might be powering the manufacturer’s upcoming Galaxy S22 series flagship phones. These phones are expected to launch this February 8 alongside Snapdragon 8 Gen1 powered models.
