Garmin Unveils Fenix 7 and Epix Gen 2 Smartwatches

Garmin just updated its Fenix series of smartwatches with the Fenix 7 and introduced a more toned-down smartwatch – Epix Gen 2.

Fenix 7 Series

The Fenix 7 consists of three variants – Fenix 7, Fenix 7S, and Fenix 7X which come in 42mm, 44mm, 47mm, and 51mm in size, respectively. You can choose from different material options that include fiber-reinforced polymer and stainless steel while the Solar and Sapphire Solar models integrate glass protection and titanium casings along with solar panels into them.

Furthermore, it has a lot of sports and activity tracking profiles that include detailed metrics for running, cycling, swimming, golf, and strength training. You can also download topoactive and ski maps directly on the watch for accurate navigation on climbing or skiing sessions

Key Fenix 7 series features include the following:

  • Transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) color touch screen displays 
  • 1.2-inch diagonal screen size for the 42mm, 1.3-inch for the 47mm, and 1.4-inch for the 51mm
  • Haptic controls via the five side-mounted buttons
  • 90-hour battery life for the 7S model and up to 213-hour battery life for the Solar models
  • Built-in LED flashlight for the 7X model
  • Wrist-based heart rate measurements
  • SpO2, stress, breathing, and sleep tracking
  • 10ATM water resistance
  • GNSS positioning with L5 standard for accurate details
  • 16GB storage for the 7S and 32GB on the Sapphire model with NFC that supports Garmin Pay

As far as pricing goes, the Fenix 7 and 7S starts at USD 700 (42mm), USD 900 for the Sapphire Solar variant, and the Fenix 7X starts at USD 900 and goes up to USD 1000.

Epix Gen 2

The Epix series was first released back in 2015 and now its successor brings improvements to the series.

Key features of the Epix Gen 2 series are the following:

  • 1.3-inch Always on AMOLED touchscreen
  • 47mm casing
  • Stainless steel or Titanium
  • Entry-level models come with Gorilla Glass DX while top tier models come with Sapphire Crystal material
  • 16-day battery life with moderate usage
  • 16GB/32GB storage
  • 10 ATM water resistance
  • GNSS positioning systems

The Epix Gen 2 series is available starting at USD 900 up to USD 1000 for the titanium model.
