Samsung recently launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and it was just a matter of time until it faced the durability test of YouTuber JerryRigEverything. The durability test includes a scratch test, a flame test, and the dreaded bend test.
First up was the scratch test which proved pretty much as expected. The outer display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus and unsurprisingly, showed light scratches at level 6 of the Mohs hardness scale with deeper grooves appearing at level 7. Again, these are expected for glass.
Meanwhile, the inner screen still showed grooves at levels 2 and 3, despite the improvements of Samsung. Although Zach Nelson of JerryRigEverything did clarify that the Mohs hardness scale isn’t the best way to test the improvement in the plastic used because with the scale, it is still plastic.
The scratch test continued with him scratching away at the “Armor Aluminum” around the device which was questionable because he easily left marks with a razor-blade.
The flame test was next which surprisingly affected the outer panel more than the inner screen when subjected to an open flame.
Specifically for the foldable device, the durability test included it being covered in soil to test the hinge as well as the inner screen. The Galaxy Z Fold3 held up with no dirt getting inside the hinge, which is a good sign.
Last was the bend test. In addition to the phone, the new S Pen was tested, and to put it bluntly, it snapped into two.
When it came to the Galaxy Z Fold3 itself though, it held up both folded and unfolded. The unfolded test included forcing the hinge the opposite way, and unlike its predecessors, the Fold3 had little to no trouble.
