Canon has just announced two new full-frame mirrorless cameras in the EOS R series – the EOS R5 and EOS R6. The two cameras are designed to provide high-quality, high-speed shooting experience which is aimed at advanced amateurs and professionals. The EOS R5 and R6 are equipped with a new and improved AF system, fast continuous shooting speed of up to 20 fps, and in-body IS.

Both cameras are powered by the DIGIC X image processor, which debuted in the flagship EOS-1DX Mark III. The new imaging processor has improved noise handling capabilities.

Canon EOS R5 and R6 also incorporate a 5-axis camera-shake blur correction In-Body Image Stabilizer function in their bodies. The new DIGIC X also gives the two cameras a new algorithm that processes gyro signal data and achieves higher image stabilization effects.

Both have a magnesium alloy body that is dust and drip-proof and feature a Vari-angle LCD with touch-screen as well.

The two latest EOS R cameras support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and work fully with the new image.canon cloud platform. The cameras can automatically upload images and video files and store them in the cloud for up to 30 days with no size limit (Once configured and a Wi-Fi connection, that is).

EOS R5

It also accommodates one CFexpress card and one SD memory card.

The EOS R5, with the combination of the CFexpress card slot and DIGIC X, can record 8K videos at 30fps with a full sensor readout. It includes an option to record 8K RAW movies internally without external accessories. It is also capable of recording up to 120fps 4K videos.

As far as connectivity goes, it has native support for both 5GHz and 2.4GHz wireless LAN. It also has FTP and FTPS data transfer.

EOS R6

Like the EOS R5, the EOS R6 has two card slots but supports two SD memory cards. It can also shoot 4K videos up to 60fps and slow-motion at 120fps in Full HD.

It only supports the 2.4GHz band but has the FTP and FTPS functionalities.

Pricing and availability for the Canon EOS R5 and R6 are yet to be announced.
