Apple has just announced the newest iteration of the iPad Pro, which now features a LiDAR scanner, pro cameras, motion sensors, studio-quality microphones, and more.
The new iPad Pro comes in 11-inch and 12.9-inch variants and has an edge-to-edge Liquid Retina Display with P3 wide color support and 120Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood is the new A12Z Bionic Chip, which boasts enhanced thermal architecture and tuned performance controllers combined with a powerful neural engine to deliver the highest level of performance from an iPad. Battery life is rated at up to 10 hours.
The device packs a 12MP wide-angle camera, along with a 10MP ultra-wide shooter for a much wider field of view. It’s also capable of recording 4K video.
Five studio-quality microphones ensure super clean audio, along with an immersive sound experience, thanks to four speakers that automatically adjust to any orientation.
The LiDAR Scanner accurately measures the distance to surrounding objects up to 5 meters away, works both indoors and outdoors, and at the photon level at nano-second speeds. By working with the data from the cameras and motion sensors, this allows for a “new class” of AR experiences.
Such a system allows apps like Measure to easily and quickly calculate someone’s height, while vertical and edge guides let users more quickly and accurately measure objects. The app now comes with Ruler View for granular measurements.
iPadOS 13.4 brings trackpad support for iPad for the first time, allowing for a more natural typing experience and added precision for tasks such as writing and selecting text, working with spreadsheets and pro workflows.
Trackpad support is also designed to work with everyday apps – From scrolling through web pages in Safari and photo libraries to precisely editing text in Notes and more.
Apple also introduced a new Magic Keyboard which attaches magnetically to iPad Pro. The new accessory delivers a full-size keyboard with backlit keys and a scissor mechanism that delivers 1mm travel. It also features USB-C pass-through charging, which keeps the USB-C port on the iPad Pro free for other accessories.
The click-anywhere trackpad on the Magic Keyboard complements the touch-first screen design for easy navigation and precise adjustments.
The 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes in two colors – Silver and Space Gray. Storage-wise, you can have up to 1TB.
