Today, we’re treated with a new smartphone, which can very well be the best competitor to Huawei’s camera monster. Galaxy S20 Ultra and the features it carries give an impression that it’s a worthy, if not its greatest, competitor.

Galaxy S20 Ultra 13Today, we’re pitting the two devices together based on its specifications. Treat everything as topline comparison as the best way to really compare both devices is when we have them on hand. Yes, I own a Mate30 Pro and got a fair amount of time with the S20 Ultra, but I encourage you to consider this as our initial comparison.

Now, here’s what we can say about the specs comparison chart above:

  • Clearly, Galaxy S20 Ultra is a better device based on processor alone. There is no way for quantifying this though until we have both units on hand. However, if we base everything on the features of each processor, Kirin 990 lacks in certain aspects especially in RAM configuration. The latter uses LPDDR4X while the former rocks an LPDDR5. LPDDR5 has better power saving features and data rate up to 6400MT/s.
  • In terms of camera set, S20 Ultra generally slays the Huawei Mate30 Pro. Based on specs, however, Mate30 Pro’s ultra-wide camera seems to show better configuration. Put everything with a grain of salt as the best way to test this is by taking actual photo comparisons.
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra has 120Hz display, therefore supports games that an run on 120fps. This alone is a huge win for Samsung especially for gamers.
  • Huawei Mate30 Pro is cheaper, but an older device. If you’re looking for something more affordable, then Mate30 Pro is your best choice albeit lacking full Google support.
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has full suite of Google services. If you don’t want to go through the hassle of “sideloading” Google to your device, pick Galaxy S20 Ultra.
