The Starmobile Knight Spectra is the latest Android phablet to be announced for the Philippines, and here’s why it deserves your attention: it’s going to be the first among local phones with a dual camera setup at the back. You read that right, there will be two cameras on the back of this one phone.

So apart from having a huge screen and the some pretty advanced hardware and software specs, the Starmobile Knight Spectra has that “extra sauce” that shows the local company’s determination to keep taking mobile photography a little more seriously than the competition. Here’s a quick list of the Knight Spectra’s specs:

At the Knight Spectra’s official local launch event, the main focus was the fact that this phone was all about ushering in the future of smartphones. If the future is all about phones like this one, then we’re not going to complain.

As you can see from the quick specs list above, the Starmobile Knight Spectra offers a lot of high mid-range features like the speedy octa-core chip, 3 gigs of RAM, and 4G LTE Internet speeds. These things are pretty much expected at this point, especially in flagship devices, but it’s still a good thing that Starmobile has finally stepped in again into the local smartphone arena with this high-end model.

Adjustable focus with two cameras

The real highlight of the Knight Spectra is its dual-camera setup at the back. This allows a user (i.e. you) to readjust a photo’s point of focus after it has already been saved to the phone’s memory. You are effectively given to points on which to focus with any particular photo you take using the Knight Spectra. That’s quite convenient, and should be useful for not only mobile photography enthusiasts, but basically anyone who has ever thought of taking a picture with their phones.

Speaking of highlight features, here are a few of the Knight Spectra’s camera tricks according to the press release:

  • Super ReFocus allows users to choose the focal point of a shot after taking a photo.
  • Chroma Flash enhances flash photography by taking two photos in rapid succession, one with flash and one without it and combined them into a single photo with the right exposure.
  • Opti Zoom shoots multiple photos simultaneously to enhance the texture and sharpness of zoomed-in images.

The Knight Spectra offers more than just adjustable points of focus or depth of field, though. In fact, if you prefer, you can actually switch off the secondary rear camera and you would only fall back on the 13MP snapper instead. Again, a convenient feature if you don’t see a need to use the secondary camera in certain situations.

What rounds out the Knight Spectra’s impressive list of features is a beefy battery, holding a capacity of 3500mAh. This is the kind of battery that one would expect in a local flagship, and there’s a good chance that it will last long enough for a phone like the Knight Spectra. It also offers digital TV on top of the interesting camera setup, so long battery life is a must.

Retail price and release date

The Starmobile Knight Spectra is going to be released two weeks from today with a retail price of Php 14,990. For a local flagship, that’s not a bad price at all. And remember, you’re getting something unique in the Knight Spectra with its dual-rear camera setup. We’ve seen it decked out in color black already, so expect it to become available in that color when it gets released.
