LG has always captured our interest whenever they launch new devices. 6 months ago, LG launched the 4th iteration of their LG G series, the LG G4. Its main camera with f/1.8 aperture level is amazing, and we regard it as one of the best phones we tested this year. This month, LG launched another groundbreaking product, the LG V10, which really made me jump off my seat… literally.

The LG V10 clearly breaks away from the G Series. If the LG G4 is LG’s premium smartphone, the V10 falls in their super premium category. It introduces several new trailblazing features such as the Second Screen, Multi-View window and Dual front and single rear camera. Yes, it has 3 cameras; this is not a drill – we are in the age of smartphones with three cameras. (Check out reviews of Cherry Mobile Selfie and ASUS ZenFone Selfie.)

During the launch of the LG V10 in Taguig last November 25, Jay Won, VP for LG Mobile Philippines said, “The LG V10 is yet another feat for our growing smartphone line as it is designed primarily for heavy users of both multi-media features and of course, the ever-growing social media universe—all packaged in a smartphone.” He also added, “We are always out to push the boundaries of innovation and we believe that with the LG V10 we achieved more than we had hoped.”

Multi-Media Powerhouse

The new smartphone’s cameras are just the tip of the iceberg. Beneath the number of cameras lie several benefits especially to people who are into taking videos and photos. LG V10’s dual front cameras are basically two separate lenses that allow you to capture 80-degree selfies or 120-degree wide angle selfies. The smartphone also features a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture lens and OIS 2.0 – the same shooter you can find on the LG G4.

The highlights of its photo and video features are its supercharged manual photo and video modes. There are some phones we reviewed in the past that also have manual mode features, but unlike the ones available on the V10. With the latter’s manual mode, it is easy to create professional-quality videos because you’ve got control over the shutter speed, frame rate, ISO, white balance and even focus. It is also capable of recording HD, Full HD and even Ultra HD; and choose between 16:9 or 21:9 aspect ratios.

LG also listed down the several functions you can do with the LG V10. Check it out below.

[su_spoiler title=”Additional Audio and Video taking functions” style=”fancy”]

  • Steady Record uses an electronic image stabilization (EIS) optimized for recording video to neutralize shake, helping to capture sharper video footage even when you’re on the move
  • Snap Video Mode: create one video by combining many shorter videos
  • 15-Sec. Auto Edit: create a short video highlight clip by automatically eliminating blurred frames and static scenes
  • Quick Video Editor: easily trim or change the frame rate and add after-effects, such as colors and background music
  • Quick Share: when finished recording, a pop-up appears on the display showing options of popular social networks to make video sharing even easier and faster
  • Audio Monitoring: adjust the sensitivity of the three microphones more accurately during video recording and directly monitor and control audio inputs
  • Wind Noise Filter: eliminate external wind noise for high-quality sound when shooting video outdoors

Another interesting thing about the LG V10 is that apart from its 64gb internal memory, it is compatible to up to 2TB MicroSD. I’m not sure if that’s even going to be available in the Philippines soon, but it’s good to know that LG will be throwing in a free 200gb MicroSD card (valued at PhP11,000) to the first few ones who will purchase the LG V10 from November 27 to November 29.

Built to Last

The LG V10 is built to last. It sports a resilient Dura Gaud frame that firmly secures the display from accidental drops. According to LG, the phones frame is the same hypoallergenic material used to make surgical tools and high-end watches. It is composed of SAE grade 316L stainless steel. (must stop nosebleeding)

What about its back cover? It is made of soft Dura Skin silocone back cover for added protection from direct impacts to the device. The material makes it resistant to nicks and scratches; and if you’ve got sweaty hands, its back grid pattern give a more secure grip thus making it slip-free.
