Three months after the availability of the Titan (check our review here), Cherry Mobile has finally launched its TV variant. Aptly called the Titan TV, Cherry Mobile managed to package this as not just a sub iteration of the original, but a device filled with many surprising features and accessories.

Just a rundown of specifications, the Titan TV has a 1Ghz MediaTek MT6577 processor, 8 MP rear facing camera, VGA front facing camera and a whopping 1GB RAM. Indeed, the latter is a huge step up compared to its predecessor. I don’t want spoil everything, but this device is fast! I just really hope that this can be upgraded to Jellybean. Unfortunately, it’s pre-installed with ICS and there may be no way to update it to Jellybean officially.

What’s inside the box?

As mentioned, the final retail box of this device has lots of surprising stuff. Here’s what’s inside:

  • Cherry Mobile Titan TV (1Ghz Dual Core Processor, 6″ Capacitive Screen)
  • Flip Cover
  • Stylus
  • Standard 3.5mm Headphone
  • Charger
  • Micro USB Cable
  • 2,500 mAh battery
  • Warranty and Manuals

You read that right: Cherry Mobile included a flip cover and stylus in the box. That’s super cool, right? You don’t need to be one of the first 50 – 100 buyers of the Titan TV in order to get these 2 bonus accessories. These stuff are really included – that’s according to the Cherry Mobile Kiosk at SM Cubao.

The phone does not look like the original Titan. Yes, it’s your usual slate device with capacitive buttons on the front, but this phone feels and looks very differently compared the first Titan. For instance, the volume rockers are located on the left side of the device; the original titan’s volume switches are on the right side. The Titan TV’s sleep/wake button is located on the right side of the phone; it is placed on the upper part of the original Titan. The rear facing camera’s location on the new Titan is placed on the left side of the back panel; the original Titan’s camera is at the center. It’s like I was looking and holding a new breed not related to Titan.

User Experience

As mentioned, the Cherry Mobile Titan TV is huge step up compared to the original Titan. With 1gb of RAM, opening apps and the multitasking experience are super smooth. I just really wish that this can be upgraded to Jellybean.

Upon opening the device, there is a prompt that tells something about eWarranty. I’m not sure if this is standard to all Cherry Mobile Android phones, but I thought it was cool. There is, however, at least PhP5.00 load in order to activate the service. I still have to ask Cherry Mobile about this but I guess that it’s a pretty neat service.

The stylus is a good addition, but I don’t think that I’d need it given the size of the phone. It’s a bonus that it may also be used as the antenna. Yes, you can literally transform it as an antenna. The flip cover is perfect! It’s made of pseudo-gamosa fabric with minute ridges. It felt very comfortable to hold and somehow boosts the innate elegance the new Titan. I find embossed markings – Cherry Mobile and Titan TV  – quite subtle so there is no need to be ashamed of when carrying this around. (Besides, there is actually nothing to be ashamed of.)

Overall, the Cherry Mobile Titan TV, is a perfect addition to the CM’s Android lineup. As a matter of fact, it’s even a better alternative to the Cherry Mobile Omega, Cruize or Thunder. I just really hoped that Cherry Mobile hyped up the announcement and release of this phone rather the Omega. As a matter of fact, it could have been a lot better if this was announced as the Omega.

The Titan TV is now available at selected Cherry Mobile stalls nationwide. TIP: We saw a plethora of stocks at SM Cubao (Cyberzone).

*UPDATE: OEM of this device is the Vsun i1.
